Meet up with your guide and a small group—capped at 15 participants—right in central Amsterdam before setting off on foot. Begin exploring the storied Jewish Quarter, pausing at landmarks like the Jewish Historical Museum and the grand Portuguese Synagogue.
While strolling through the neighborhood, you’ll uncover the difficult history surrounding the Nazi occupation from 1940 to 1945 and how it impacted not just the Jewish population, but everyone in Amsterdam. Pass by the former Jewish council headquarters and hear about key wartime events such as the Hunger Winter and the February Strike, all while viewing poignant tributes like the Dokwerker statue and the Auschwitz Monument.
Learn about the efforts of the Dutch resistance, including how they sheltered families like the Franks in secret hideaways. Your walking tour concludes outside the Anne Frank House, where your guide will explain the story behind Anne’s famous diaries and their publication by her father, Otto Frank. Entry to the museum is not included in this tour, but you may choose to visit on your own afterwards.
