The Berlin Wall was not only a symbol of the division of a city and a country, but the entire world. Europe, still scarred by the appalling tragedy of the Second World War, became the scene of a new, terrible conflict which, though it wasn’t fought with weapons, caused deep lacerations.
Checkpoint Charlie was one of the most famous border crossings in the Berlin Wall and connected the Soviet and American sectors. The checkpoint on Friedrichstrasse was set up by the Western Allies in 1961 as a result of the construction of the Wall, so that members of the Allies could continue to cross the border and enter East Berlin.
Located in Berlin, the Topography of Terror is a remainder of the gloomy history during the times of the Third Reich. This museum, including both indoor and outdoor sections, gives insight into the internal structure of the Nazi terror system and its activities from 1933 to 1945.
The Brandenburg Gate is the most famous landmark of Berlin and a must-see for every visitor to the German capital. It is the only preserved city gate in Berlin and is located on the impressive Pariser Platz in the middle of Berlin. Constructed between 1788 and 1791, this large sandstone gate is the conclusion of the magnificent "Unter den Linden" boulevard.
Think New York, Dubai, Tokyo with ultra-modern skyscrapers, architecture, and buzzing lights! This is what you can expect from Potsdamer Platz (Potsdamer Square) in Berlin, a fresh hub of business and entertainment that never sleeps. After a rocky start being destroyed in WWII and divided by the Berlin Wall, when German unification happened in 1990, Potsdamer Platz finally got its mojo back!
