Overview
You can find Nostalgic OSAKA, because this area survived from fire in the 2nd world war. Here, Karahori area takes only 20mins on foot from downtown, Dotonbori but atmosphere is totally different. You can enjoy opposite side of Osaka.
And the guide, Chieko is local person. 한국어도 합니다.
In Karahori area, there still remain many off the beaten path, like maze and many Machiya(traditional mercantile houses).
On the off the beaten path, you can find some remain Osaka castle of 15D.
Main point of this tour is getting into off the beaten path that are not on guidebook. You can take photogenic shots.
We visit hidden shops(select shop, café) in alleys. You can enjoy shopping something that not found at souvenir shops.
And we walk through local market street. You can see daily life of local.
We visit Tatami mat(traditional Japanese flor mat) shop. You can learn how to make Tatami mat.

Fun, informative and a well thought out walking path!

It was a wonderful and informative tour with Chieko-san! She took us down so many alleyways and explained so many interesting parts about the city! Because we said we loved cats Chieko-san also tailored some parts of the tour towards cat themed souvenir ideas or wandering down an alley to potentially see a cat appear! Chieko-san offered to take photos throughout the walk and answered our questions no matter how silly! We will definitely return when we get the chance to visit Japan again and Chieko-san offered to show us even more areas. It was the most comfortable I have felt as a tourist within Japan ☺️

Exploring the Karahori area of Osaka with Cheiko-san as our guide was an unforgettable experience! This serene and historic part of the city felt like a step back in time, with its charming old houses, narrow streets, and authentic local atmosphere. Cheiko took us to some delightful local shops, bakeries, and sweet shops, where we had the chance to try delicious treats and discover unique items. Her deep love for Karahori really shone through, and her knowledge of the area added so much to our experience. The tour felt personal and unhurried, allowing us to truly appreciate the calm and beauty of this hidden gem in Osaka. We can see how to make Tatami mat(Traditional Japanese floor mat) Shop master show us Tatami material, Tatami making machine.
10 minutesKarahori Shopping Street
Local and daily life shopping street. You can be a local when you walk here. And Karahori area where is nostalgic and historical area. We can see a lots of old houses, Machiya, which are over 100years in this area. And can visit/get into them because some of them are renovated into café/shops. You can buy and eat something that you can't find at airport souvenir shop.
You can enjoy local food, e.g. Tofu, fried chicken, steamed bun if you want.
1 hourKarahori Shopping Street
Hidden café in renovated old house. We can enjoy shopping something that not found at airport souvenir shops.
15 minutesTHis is bonito shop established at 1765(Has over 250years history!) We can know what is authentic bonito.
5 minutesThis is the most delicious chocolate shop in Osaka, i believe.
5 minutesTraditional house is renovated into shop complex. You can find unique souvenir.
10 minutesThis is hidden cafe in alley. And just beside on the cafe, we can see Osaka castle original moat wall. This wall remain since 15C.
