Overview
Hop aboard your coach in central Taormina and travel one hour inland to Mount Etna. Set in the middle of a national park, the notoriously active volcano dominates the surrounding landscape.
Step out at Rifugio Sapienza, the volcano’s base station. Your host will point you in the direction of the impressive Monti Silvestri Craters before you take off exploring the foothills at your own speed. Discover the myriad hiking trails along the way and soak up incredible views from all over the national park. When you’ve worked up an appetite, head to Rifugio Sapienza’s restaurant (own expense), located conveniently nearby.
Alternatively, upgrade your experience with a guided trip to the volcano’s upper crater. Travel up by cable car and then by jeep to the crater zones at roughly 9,800 feet (3,000 meters). Led by licensed guides from the Italian Alpine Club, admire the craters and take in panoramic views.
Your tour will conclude with transportation back to Taormina.

Amazing Mt Etna

Great tour. Amazing sites from the top. Smoke still coming out of the craters. I highly recommend this excursion.

Some parts of the tour weren't available to do because of the poor weather conditions but that was no fault of the tour company who kept us informed throughout and were very informative.

Took 2 tours with SAT Group, one to Mount Etna & the other a day trip to Siracusa. Thanks to Elizabeth & Alexandra for providing lots of info as our tour guides. Both were very knowledgeable. Coach drivers Angelo & Alfio were very careful drivers making us feel safe & secure, especially when navigating hair pin bends en route to collection points in Taormina! Both trips enjoyable & memorable. Thanks!

The guide was very helpful and spoke 3 languages effortlessly. I think the only problem was being with a large bus there was a lot of waiting around. A smaller group would be better
