Anna was superlative as a guide, historian, story-teller, and true host to this gorgeous city. She met us at our hotel (and had some wonderful history to impart about that as well) and guided us throughout the city's vennels, squares, river walk, cathedral, and college with knowledge, humour, and sincerity. We could have spent the entire day wtih her- her timings so we had enough time to enjoy and soak in areas was spot on. Durham is an exquisite city- with its rich history it should be on everyone's wish list!

We had a lovely private afternoon tour of Durham Cathedral with Anna. She was very knowledgeable and engaging, and easily answered our many questions - no small feat as our party consisted of four retired academics with a wide range of interests (and accompanied by a couple of dogs)! Highly recommended.

The walking tour of Durham with Fran was a delightful way to spend a couple hours. We walked and talked about ancient and current Durham—its history, people, culture. And I even got some recs for other things to do during the rest of the day. Because this tour came at the end of my trip to the North of England and southern Scotland, our conversation tied several themes together and was a great way to wrap things up before heading home. Thank you!

My husband and I did the tour of Durham: Myths and Legends. Despite horrendous rainy weather we both loved the tour. Our guide Fran, was knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming.
Begin in Millennium Square and enjoy views of the new developments in the city as well as the introduction story to St. Cuthbert and the beautiful Fenwick Lawson statue in the square itself.
Enter the medieval market square & discover the stories behind this architectual gem with its statues and market hall. If open, we will be able to enter the Victorian Market
On the route leading to Palace Green, enjoy a true experience of medieval Durham with lanes filled with medieval architecture, clues of a bygone past and little snickleways (called vennels in Durham) leading to some extraordinary finds.
In Palace Green, marvel at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Durham Castle & Cathedral and also hear stories of Prince Bishops and your surrounding square...
Take a look at this fabulous castle - not all is as it seems though and your guide will reveal all...
Gaze at this magnificent Romanesque building - one of the largest of its kind. If time allows, you will be able to walk through the cathedral and your local expert can give you some insights during your walkthrough. Feel free to reach out to us if you would like a fully guided tour of the cathedral as part of your tour. Please note the cathedral can close from time to time due to services or special events at short notice.
Take a walk through the beautiful College behind Durham Cathedral - a place of tranquillity and home to the famous Chorister School of Durham Cathedral.
Cross the river Wear on Prebends Bridge - you will be rewarded with some of the best views onto Durham Cathedral (a view even WTM Turner admired).
Enjoy a splendid walk along the riverside of Durham's river Wear, home to some of the best rowing athletes in the country. With any look you will see some training sessions... The views are marvellous onto the cathedral and castle.
Cross yet another bridge on the river Wear - this time it is the 15th Century Framwellgate Bridge leading back into the heart of the city.
