On the positive side, our guide was friendly and full of information about Costa Rican history and of traditional food and drink. But on the negative, the tour was a major disappointment and nothing like it was advertised. Initially we sat in a restaurant for one hour, sharing two appetizers and some small traditional drinks. Next we moved to a second restaurant where we sat for another hour and shared one appetizer and six tiny one ounce beers. That’s it!! We were finished. No street food. No vendors. No huge variety of Costa Rican street food. Although it was scheduled for 3 hours, we were done in 2 and good bye. When I booked this street food crawl, I was told that if the weather was a factor, my money would be refunded or the tour would be rescheduled. It did rain one hour before the tour briefly, but she said the tour would continue. Then while leaving the first restaurant, we were told that the park was a little wet and muddy so we wouldn’t see the street food vendors and headed toward the second restaurant. I felt that I definitely didn’t get what was advertised or what I paid for. If that brief shower was enough to cancel all that was advertised, I should have been refunded or rescheduled. I was very disappointed with this experience.

This was a fun and informative tour. We chose this activity for day one of our trip to learn about both Costa Rican food and the area around where we were staying in Escalante. MJ is very friendly and even assisted us with suggestions beyond our tour to help make our stay in Costa Rica perfect. The tour covers several stops but the total amount of walking is not bad at all. We're definitely happy with our selection.

Maria took us to three local restaurants and we sampled various local dishes. The food was amazing at all places! She was very knowledgeable about the Costa Rican history and gave us lots of interesting information.
