Its construction started in 786 and had several extensions during the Emirate and the Caliphate of Córdoba. After the Reconquest, in 1238, it became a Catholic cathedral and today is one of the most important monuments in Spanish and particularly Andalusian architecture.

Soaring double arches, granite columns and intricate geometric decorations: the Cathedral-Mosque of Cordoba (also known as the Mezquita) is a serene yet awesome beauty. Not only a magnificent example of Moorish and Islamic architecture, it’s also a fascinating reflection of the city’s past and the many civilizations that once inhabited it.
