Great introductory tour

966danaea, Nov 2024

Very informative tour, a great introduction to the city's history from medieval times until today. You'll also find out about other places of interest.

Walking Tour

Mrsja_O, Sept 2024

Edward gave us an excellent tour - it was fun as well as informative - we had a very enjoyable time. My friend is dependent on a mobility scooter for all of her access and we would both like to thank Edward for making sure we saw everything and adapting the route to ensure this happened.

Great tour filled with stories and sights

Jonathan_K, Jun 2024

we had an amazing half day with Edward. He was knowledgeable and relaxed and had so many stories of the are as a native that added color and context to what we were seeing. A little Beatles and a lot of Liverpool history with some U.S. Civil War history thrown in made for a great, leisurely and long walk through the city. highly recommended!

Wonderful day in Liverpool

Carol_M, Jun 2024

Edward our guide was great. He was very knowledgeable and accommodating. Lots of fun little insights. He gave us a great overview of Liverpool and the Beatles. The meeting spot is about a 2 mile leisurely walk mostly along the waterfront from the cruise terminal. Lots of cabs available if preferred.

Itinerary

  • Hope Street

At each end of Hope Street you will be able to see both of Liverpool's famous Cathedrals. We will pause briefly to see St James's Cemetery while you hear about its history. Then we will have a stroll along Hope Street learning about the residents of the past with plenty of photo opportunities as we go. You'll never guess which house it was where the cellar was used by grave robbers. See the famous Philharmonic Pub where the Beatles played in their early days as well as Paul and George's old school.

    20 minutes
  • Rodney Street

Travelling back in time, this street has been used in films such as Peaky Blinders and Sherlock Holmes amongst others. It is one of the few streets that the Georgian and Victorian residents would still recognise today. It's also the location of Liverpool's pyramid tomb.

    10 minutes
  • St Luke’s Bombed Out Church

We next head down Hardman Street towards Liverpool City Centre, passing St Luke's Church (known locally as the bombed out church) that suffered extensive damage during the Second World War and remains today as a monument for the people of Liverpool who lost their lives during the conflict. Within the grounds of the church are monuments to the Christmas ceasefire of WWI and the Irish famine.

    10 minutes
  • Bold Street

We'll pass through one of the main shopping, cafe and bistro areas of Liverpool before walking down Church Street. The site of St Peter's Church, built in 1700 and was Liverpool's Pro-cathedral until 1926, is marked by a brass cross inlaid into the pavement. Travelling along Whitechapel we will be able to see the place where Brian Epstein had his music shop and office before heading towards the famous Mathew Street.

    15 minutes
  • Mathew Street

For Beatles Fans, this is where it all began. We will pass the Cavern Club, see the Eleanor Rigby Statue for a photo opportunity and perhaps buy the odd souvenir at the tourist shop.

    10 minutes
  • Dale Street

It's a short walk to Dale Street where you will be able to see (and perhaps enjoy a drink) at Liverpool's oldest public house build in 1726 before we head towards the Georgian Town Hall - one of the finest buildings in the city with a fascinating history built in 1754.

    10 minutes
  • Castle Street

Moving along Castle Street we head towards the place where Liverpool Castle once stood and is now occupied by the Victoria Monument in honour of Queen Victoria. Learn about the siege of Liverpool during the English Civil War and what was found when excavating to build the Law Courts that are now on part of the site.

    5 minutes
  • James Street

We head down James Street and pass the offices of the White Star Line and owners of the Titanic before moving to the pier head to see the famous Liver Buildings, Cunard Buildings and the Port of Liverpool building. We stop briefly to hear the history of the fabulous pieces of architecture before heading past the Museum of Liverpool towards the Albert Dock.

    10 minutes
  • Albert Dock

The Albert Dock, Victorian warehouses and once the secret navy base for the war in the North Atlantic is now a major tourist hub in Liverpool. It is also home to the Tate Gallery as well a numerous shops, restaurants, bars and cafes. You will have time to get your bearings and maybe take a few photographs before we move to the final location.

    15 minutes
  • Thomas Steers Way

Ending our tour where it all began for Liverpool with the World's first tidal dock built in 1715, we have come full circle with the Liverpool 1 shopping complex the most modern part of the city and taking Liverpool into the future.
