Overview

Sumo is a Japanese style of full-contact wrestling that requires immense strength and skill. Few travelers are lucky enough to see behind the scenes of a sumo stable (training hall)—considered a sacred space. On this insightful tour, see behind the scenes and visit the sumo stable of Tatsunami-beya—accompanied by a National Government Licensed English Guide Interpreter—and watch sumo wrestlers train during morning practice. Better still, this sumo stable is home to an active Yokozuna, the highest rank in professional sumo. Afterwards, snap a picture with the wrestlers and shop exclusive mementoes.

Great Experience!

aaronsI4111ZQ, Sept 2025

Wonderful experience! Thank you to Kaoru and her team for hosting us on the visit Tatsunami-beya as the rikishi prepared for the upcoming September basho. It was intense! The tour provided valuable insights into sumo for both long time fans and those new to the sport. Aloha, the Sakamoto family.

Must experience once in your life!

This was such an incredible experience! My husband and i wanted to go to the sumo tournament but we would have missed by a couple of days. Instead, we found a sumo exercise session. It was longer than usual in preparation for the incoming tournament and it was amazing to watch. The guides were so kind and so informative. We really enjoyed the whole experience! Highly, highly recommended!!

Sumo special in Asakusa

This was a true pleasure to be able to witness the ceremony of the sumo wrestler. It far exceeded our expectations and we were truly mesmerised by the wrestlers themselves. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and this enhances the experience. I would highly highly recommend this tour.

A must-do!

juliemO3393JW, Aug 2025

This was an impressive experience. The hosts that greeted us outside the tour checked us in and briefed us on what to expect, and it made sure everyone was prepared to be respectful inside the sumo stable. I would recommend getting there maybe 30 minutes early to hopefully get a spot in the front row, but we were in the second and it was still great for photos. I strongly recommend this experience!!
