    The Marienplatz (St. Mary's Square) is the central square in the city centre of Munich and the beginning of the pedestrian zone. The square is surrounded by a multitude of historical buildings, including the New Town Hall (Neues Rathaus) in the northern part, Old Town Hall in the eastern part, and the Mariensäule in the middle of the square.

    Viktualienmarkt is a famous permanent food market in Munich which was first opened in 1807. In 140 stalls and shops, visitors can buy fresh flowers, meat, fish, cheese, vegetables, wine and much more. The traditional Maypole in the center of the market shows old crafts and trades.
