We loved our trip to Ischia. The tour company booked our SNAV boat tickets and made a reservation for us at a restaurant on the island. Their meeting location instructions and lunch instructions were great. However, we would have liked to have had more flexibility with our lunch reservation. It put a wrinkle in our day as we had to get to the restaurant at a specific time by bus and carve out the time to do so. We had to purchase bus tickets in addition to finding the schedule. It shortened our Castello experience and then left us with little options as the whole island shuts down for lunch between 2 and 4pm. We sat on a park bench for a couple of hours then had to race into the shops before our boat left at 5:30. If you go- shop first, eat then go to the castle.

Ischia is a fantastic tourist destination. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit Ischia. The water is crystal clear and the views along the shore is amazing.

Save your time and money. I have traveled all over the world and have never had a worse experience than I have had in Ischia. Upon arriving to the island, it quickly became apparent that tourists are not welcome. As a tourist, you will feel out of place and excited for your vacation to come to an end. As I walked down the beach, the locals would stare at me with disgust. I even heard various individuals complain about the presence of tourists. The general atmosphere in Ischia is very odd. There are only kids and older adults. It seems as if an entire generation of individuals is missing from the island. The locals do not seem to want tourists ‘invading’ the beaches or anywhere in the island. There is also nothing to do in the island other than a hot spring, which is hard to access. If you are a tourist and decide to make the unfortunate decision of visiting Ischia, be aware that the restaurants will try to charge you for silly things. I was charged additional money for having a table cloth at three restaurants in Ischia. As an experienced traveler, Ischia is not somewhere that I would recommend. Save yourself some time and money and choose a better destination.
