Overview

Follow a local guide through a half-day tour of Bangkok's most iconic architectural wonders. Start things off at the Royal Grand Palace, near the banks of the picturesque Chao Phraya River, and wander the temples, pagodas and well-kept gardens of this essential city stop. The famed kings of Siam called this stunning gilded palace home from 1782 until 1925. Visitors can see the famous Temple of the Emerald Buddha and check out the Gautama Buddha that was carved from a single of piece of jade.

After exploring the city's most famous royal home, head to Bangkok's oldest temple, Wat Pho. See the famed golden Reclining Buddha, stretching some 140 feet (43 m) long. Explore the temple interior decorated with some 1000 images of Buddha.

This memorable tour concludes with a visit to Wat Traimit Temple, where the 5.5-ton, solid gold Buddha lives. Widely believed to be nearly 700 years old, it was discovered in 1954, hidden in a plaster casing that hid its true value.

Travelers should remember to wear long pants or knee-length skirts and have shoulders covered when entering the temples and palace.

I relied on Inviaggi to arrange a private tour to Bangkok + transfers to/from the airport and to/from Koh-Lipe. Impeccable organization, at each of our arrival / departure there was always the driver ready to accompany us; the guides speaking a perfect Italian accompanied us for 2 half days to discover the Royal Palace, the Temples, floating market and market on the railway. Accommodation in both Bangkok and Koh Lipe was ideal for us, both as a location and for comfort. We had a contact person on site who assisted us with a couple of inquiries. I would recommend to everyone my experience with Inviaggi; I consider the value for money very good

Loved the personal tour

Valerie C, Mar 2025

Our guide was so sweet and we loved all the detail she shared about the palace and temples. Appreciated that she shared information in the shade. It was hot. Loved the door to door service and the lunch was great!

Congratulations to all the InnViaggi staff, excellent organization, punctuality and courtesy of the guides and drivers to whom I extend heartfelt thanks, and also to Jacopo and his collaborator Sandrine, who planned my trip as I wanted, enriching it with useful advice. Excellent hotels and beautiful places visited. I absolutely recommend contacting them for a trip to Thailand!!!!

Itinerary

  • The Grand Palace

The Grand Palace is a complex of buildings at the heart of Bangkok, Thailand. The palace has been the official residence of the Kings of Siam (and later Thailand) since 1782. The king, his court, and his royal government were based on the grounds of the palace until 1925. King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX), resided at the Chitralada Royal Villa and his successor King Vajiralongkorn (Rama X) at the Amphorn Sathan Residential Hall, both in the Dusit Palace, but the Grand Palace is still used for official events. Several royal ceremonies and state functions are held within the walls of the palace every year. The palace is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Thailand

  • Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimonmangkalaram Ratchaworamahaviharn

The temple is first on the list of six temples in Thailand classed as the highest grade of the first-class royal templ.

It is associated with King Rama I who rebuilt the temple complex on an earlier temple site. It became his main temple and is where some of his ashes are enshrined.

The temple was later expanded and extensively renovated by Rama III. The temple complex houses the largest collection of Buddha images in Thailand, including a 46 m long reclining Buddha. The temple is considered the earliest centre for public education in Thailand, and the marble illustrations and inscriptions placed in the temple for public instructions has been recognised by UNESCO in its Memory of the World Programme. It houses a school of Thai medicine, and is also known as the birthplace of traditional Thai massage which is still taught and practiced at the temple.

  • Temple of the Golden Buddha (Wat Traimit)

Wat Traimit in Bangkok is known for housing a 5.5-tonne statue of a seated Buddha. The gold sculpture dates back to the 13th century and measures at nearly 5 metres in height. Located in Chinatown Bangkok, this ornate temple is about 450 metres west of the Hualampong Railway Station

  • Temple Of Dawn (Wat Arun)

Wat Arun, locally known as Wat Chaeng, is a landmark temple on the west (Thonburi) bank of the Chao Phraya river. It’s easily one of the most stunning temples in Bangkok, not only because of its riverside location but also because the design is very different from the other temples you can visit in the Thai capital. Wat Arun (nicknamed the 'Temple of Dawn') is partly made up of colourfully decorated spires and stands majestically over the water.

Wat Arun is almost directly opposite Wat Pho, so it’s very easy to get to. From Saphan Taksin boat pier you can take a riverboat that stops at Pier 8. From here, a small shuttle boat takes you from one side of the river to the other.
