Fun and Informative!

TammyMichelle27, Jun 2026

The two adults and one teenage boy spent almost three hours enjoying the interactive Viking Planet. We learned, we played, we experienced. From the VR game to the detailed timeline, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience!

Amazing time

dagmarf994, May 2026

We were amazed by the fun we had. Virtual game was great and we will never forget it:-); Museum is great too, we loved the 4D cinema (we went twice) and all the other sections were perfect with digital experience. We also loved the "selfie" corners to try weapons and clothes. One of the best ever experience from a museum. I can only recommend. It is a "must" in Oslo. Especially with teenage kids:-) We purchased ticket upfront online for a time slot we wanted, no waiting time, no stress. We stayed approx 2hours. We were lucky there was no crowd and we could enjoy the museum really well. Staff was very nice and even took pictures during our Virtual game. Athmosphere was relaxed and joyfull.

Hail Ragnar!

Virtual reality is fun. The museum has lots of information and interactive opportunities. There are 3 short films to watch. The location is very easy to find.

Well worth a visit, but don't expect too much from the VR

J0B, May 2026

We'd read mixed things about this before we arrived, but I think a lot of the negative reviews are those of people who had gone in expecting one thing and finding something else. It is very much sold on the VR aspect, but it is much more than that! We went for the combined Museum and VR game ticket - we'd recently done another VR thing back home and got the bug to try out some more. The VR game is approx 15mins, you act as a Viking on board a long ship using a bow and arrow and sword to protect your ship - although visiting as a couple, we both played separately...arguably, I think it might have been more fun to both be on one boat side by side but that's probably a technical and logistical nightmare. You don't learn an awful lot through the game, but its a fun way to approach history. Downstairs, the museum was great - so much information, presented in modern and interactive ways, which makes the information much more accessible than seeing items behind a glass cabinet in a stuffy museum. The 270 cinema experience was great to give you a real feel for life in Viking Norway, and through the other exhibits you learned about Viking battles, Norse Gods & Mythology, different roles in Viking society, items Vikings would have used from long boats and weapons to craft items and furniture. It really gave you a sense of what life was like under Viking rule. The VR experience downstairs is fairly short, and a bit of fun, to end your visit - it is certainly not the main event. Staff were friendly and helpful, the museum felt spacious and wasn't too busy on a weekday afternoon, with exhibits available in multiple languages. The gift shop was well stocked and had some different items available to a lot of the usual tourist tat you get in these types of venues usually.

Response from Host, May 2026

Thak you for the very thorough and positive review and recommendation. We are delighted that you enjoyed our various intreractive and immersive experiences including the VR game. I think your comment about what to expects is cery rrue. We are not a traditional museum but a highly interactive and modern approach to learning and enjoying history.
