Itinerary

  • Mosque of Muhammad Ali

I'll discuss parts of Mohamed Ali Pasha's autobiography and his strategies for becoming Egypt's only ruler throughout this tour. I'll also discuss the largest political massacre in the Citadel with the sole Mamluk survivor and why restoring the exquisite Alabaster Mosque cost so much money.

Discover the fortified Castle or Citadel of Saladin as well, taking in its strategic setting atop the Moqqatam Hills as well as its tall sickle-shaped walls and sturdy watchtowers.

The mosque's outside is covered in Alabaster Stone, its windows are constructed of copper, and its inside is decorated with lovely polychrome artwork that has been gilded in copper. You may also view the clock tower, which Louis Philippe, King of France, gave to Mohammad Ali Pasha in appreciation for his priceless gift of the obelisk that was taken from the Luxor Temple and brought to France.

Learn about Islamic features including the ablution fountain, the open courtyard, the Mihrab pointed at Mecca's Quibla

  • The Hanging Church

Explore The church, which served as the foundation for the patriarchal church of Egypt, was named after the Roman fort that served as the hanging church's foundation. The church, which bears the name St. Virgin Mary, was constructed as a basilica with a wooden ceiling and Roman architectural features including Roman column capitals. The church has numerous antique, rare Coptic icons and relics, including those of many prominent martyr saints, including St. George. The virgin Mary appeared to the priest ibn zaraa in a vision and informed him that the miracle the caliph wanted for the Christians would be performed by shosemaker Samman el Kharaz, who would also lead the populace, and that the mountain Moqqatam would leave central Cairo as directed by Chalif. Do not miss the place of miracles.
