At the top of a rocky formation besides the river Salzach lies the castle of Burghausen. Nestled upon a town on the border to Austria, it has long been the longest castle of the world, having witnessed over one thousand years of history. The form it takes today dates back to the Turkish siege, and allows for breathtaking panoramic views over the town, the Salzach, and both Austria and Bavaria.
