There is not much to see...

Cindy_T, Jan 2023

There is not much to see in this tour. The best part was the felucca ride. We had to request the tour guide to explain more to us. We had 4 tours, this tour was the most expensive one but had nothing much to see. The admission on the two sites was only 140 EGP.

Great Guide

This was fantastic! The tour was wonderful, I especially enjoyed the felucca ride. Mohamed was a wonderful tour guide, very friendly, went at a good pace and didn’t rush us, and was very knowledgeable. The driver was very good as well.

Well-paced and easygoing tour of Cairo sites

tylerchr, Apr 2022

Our tour with Mohamed was delightful. He’s very knowledgeable about the sites we visited with him, and he worked with us early in the tour to rearrange our visits to better suit our schedule and the weather. Mohamed seemed to know interesting minor facts about each site and made sure to point out pieces of history we otherwise might have missed. He was easygoing and the tour well paced. Well recommended for any Cairo visitor.

Great tour guide and amazing full day

Nagwan Helal was our guide and was so amazing! She was very helpful and knew all of the best spots! Our lunch was so tasty. She was able to help us with so many things and we will definitely be booking with Sun tours again. The manial palace was very beautiful and the nilometer felt like you were in history. Abdelrahim was our driver and was very skilled as well.

Itinerary

  • Nilometer

The first monument to visit is the Nilometer .It’s situated in the southern tip of Roda Island. It is one of the oldest existent structures which dates back to the period just after the Arab conquest of Egypt. Its importance goes back to a time when measuring the rise of the waters of the Nile was closely related to the levying of taxes on agricultural lands. Taxes were levied only when the waters of the Nile had risen to a certain designated level, which would irrigate the land during flood season.

He had it designed in a style integrating European Art Nouveau and Rococo with many traditional Islamic architecture styles including Ottoman, Moorish, Persian, creating inspired combinations in spatial design, architectural and interior decorations, and sumptuous materials. The residence compound, composed of five separate and distinctively styled buildings, is surrounded by gardens planted with rare tropical plants collected by the prince on his travels along a small branch of the Nile.

Then, Ending the tour with a visit to the City of Dead or Cairo cemetery which contains a vast area of tombs and mausoleums, some of them are dating back the Islamic Conquest of Egypt at 642 AD. Many people take this area as their permanent home because of the country’s chronic housing crisis shortage. It’s interesting to go and see this area and how the people live there.
