Make your own way to the Ljubljana Castle ticket office at a time of your choosing and hop on the funicular (if option selected) for a scenic ride to the top of Castle Hill.
On arrival, set out on a self-guided tour of the castle, starting by browsing the exhibitions and learning more about Slovenian history. Visit the Penitentiary, the Castle Chapel of St George, and the Pentagonal Tower, then stop by the Mini Theatre to watch a puppet show or browse the Rustika gallery of arts and crafts.
Be sure to take in the views from the Watchtower and stop for a coffee at the Castle Coffee House (own expense), before heading back down on the funicular.

A Small castle in Europe. Nothing much to see except enjoying the view of Ljubljana. Funicular is fun though. Walking up the stairs to the tower is fun.

Beautiful restoration of the Castle on an architectural level. But objectively it doesn’t have much to offer compared to other castles around Slovenia.

Got tickets for the cable car under the impression we had access to the tower but no. Restrooms not free and coins needed!

Thank you for taking the time to share your personal opinion about your visit. We appreciate the feedback. We have a very clear price list on our website, which clearly states that the ticket for funicular is only for driving and not for sightseeing. While purchased, you could check what exactly ticket included. We are sorry that you did not take the Castle Ticket, which includes the Observation Tower, the Virtual Castle, the Slovenian History Exhibition and the Puppet Museum. It is true that the restrooms are payable, only for guests in cafe bar and restaurants use it for free. Thank you again for your feedback and kind regards.

We visited Ljubljana Castle by purchasing the entrance + funicular + audio guide (total 23€ with a small discount related to online purchase). The Castle is undoubtedly very pretty, alternating parts left to "old" to renovated parts with a credible style for the sense of the castle itself. We found the default route and its audio guide very confusing, unable to give a precise order. Not all things to see are interesting, some too little in-depth, others too. You must see, in addition to the view of the city (from the lookout tower first of all), the virtual reality movie (half an hour) and the puppet exhibition, which represent something different from the usual. Recommended visit to the castle, but apart from a couple of things, just free access.

Thank you for taking the time to share your personal opinion about your visit. We appreciate the feedback. With the help of the audioguide, you could learn about the castle’s history and become familiar with the numerous stories and individuals that had a decisive influence on the development of this symbol of the Slovenian capital. The audioguide could accompanied you at the Permanent Exhibition of Slovenian History, the Permanent Exhibition in the Museum of Puppetry, and the Virtual Castle. You certainly learned a lot more than if you hadn't had the audio guide. Thank you again for your feedback and kind regards.
Ljubljana Castle, Viewing Tower, Museum of puppetry, Museum of Slovenian History, Virtual Castle and some temporary exibitions.
