Fabulous day eating local

tb502, Dec 2025

We do a food tour in every new town we stay in as we feel they're a great way Toney to the know the area and the local cuisine. Our tour guide Denia took us to several local spots that all specialized in something different and everything we ate was fabulous, even out picket teenagers enjoyed almost everything! Denia was a wonderful host who knew many things about Lucca and gave us good information about the town as well as the food. Our tour was very personal and a great way to spend a few hours getting to know Lucca.

Learning the history of...

Learning the history of the city while visiting spots I otherwise would have missed is the best part of tours like this. Tiziana did an amazing job!

A great food tour in Lucca

bayareagirl66, Dec 2025

We loved our food tour. Annalisa was a wonderful guide. She made us feel like we were chatting with an old friend. It was a very relaxed experience. The food was very high-quality and plentiful and we got to try foods that are local to Lucca. I’m very glad we chose this tour.

Disappointed

Martine_D, Nov 2025

We are very disappointed! If we did not ask our guide questions, we would not have learned anything about the city and life in Lucca! At the gastronomy level, we would have liked to go to a salumeria, to be able to taste several specialities of cold cuts. We got a single slice of fennel salami. Same for cheese, we would have liked to go to a cheese factory or grocery store and taste several cheeses. We only had a tiny piece of pecorino! Same for the wine! We have everything in the same place next to the pane dolce, a little easy!! The restaurant was average, we thought we would enjoy a pasta dish at a pasta producer!! Service of this gastronomic tour was minimal and expensive for what we had!!

Itinerary

  • Piazza Napoleone

We begin our journey in one of Lucca’s main squares, bordered by majestic XVI-century palaces. As we cross this vibrant hub, we’ll head towards our first stop to dive into the local culinary delights.

  • While admiring the beautiful church and the lively square around it, we will taste the first traditional specialty of Lucca, the Buccellato, a sweet bread flavored with fruit and anise.

    30 minutes
  • Piazza Anfiteatro

Next, we’ll make our way through Piazza Anfiteatro, the most iconic and picturesque spot in Lucca. We’ll stroll around this uniquely shaped square, once the site of a Roman amphitheater, before heading to the next stop on our gastronomic journey.

  • At this characteristic stop in the heart of the walled city, we’ll indulge in a plate of Tordelli, a traditional Lucca pasta filled with meat and herbs, served in a rich, savory sauce. A true taste of the region’s culinary tradition.

    30 minutes
  • Torre Guinigi

As we continue our walk through the charming streets of Lucca, we’ll pass by the iconic Torre Guinigi, a medieval tower with a unique garden at its summit, offering a glimpse into the city’s fascinating history.

  • In this lovely square, we will stop to enjoy a plate of fresh local cold cuts, perfectly paired with a glass of red wine, while soaking in the lively atmosphere and beauty of Lucca.

    30 minutes
  • On Via Buia, we will sample Cecina, a beloved Tuscan street food made from chickpea flour and served warm and savory. This iconic dish is a true local favorite.

    15 minutes
  • We’ll wrap up our food tour with a sweet treat along Via San Paolino, where we’ll indulge in some local chocolate and a traditional dessert, leaving you with the perfect ending to this delicious exploration of Lucca’s culinary offerings.
