Severine is a fun, wise, friendly, energetic and caring guide. Her warm relationships with all the food vendors, her love of Marseille’s multicultural depth helped make this a great and memorable day. As a solo traveler, it was great to connect with her, the other group members, and get great orientation and appreciation for this great, unique city. I loved it ❣️

Amazing food and history tour of Marseille, a don't miss!

Rosiemcmlovestotrave, May 2026

This was a really amazing food tour of Marseille, exploring the many different cultures that make Marseille so unique. Our tour guide, Severine, was amazing. She is so knowledgeable not only about the food but also about the history, politics and changes that Marseille has seen since it's earliest days as a city. We began at the top of the stairs at the train station. We visited everything from small grocery stores packed with Armenian delicacies and a store with an incredible array of spices and teas to a delicious fish restaurant for lunch to open air markets. There were tastes of the foods everywhere we went. We met a baker from West Africa preparing dough and baguettes for the French bakery across the street and a small bustling restaurant with all the locals stopping by for hearty lunches and multi layered bread and traditional mint tea. I can't even begin to name all of the places we went, you'll have to book and find out for yourself. We ended the day at the Old Port in an upstairs cafe looking out over the harbour and sipping Pastis! It was a perfect day and I highly recommend this amazing tour! Thank you Severine for all of your wonderful energy and sharing all you know of Marseille with us! Truly memorable!

This was my 6th tour with Culinary Backstreets. Each one has been outstanding carefully curated to the location. Our guide, Severine, was exceptional. She was knowledgeable and answered all our questions with great insight. She was also curious about us and tailored our stops to our interests. I always recommend CB to my friends with confidence. Marseille gets top billing.
