Overview

Meet your guide at your hotel in downtown Chiang Mai at your selected departure time and proceed straight to the dock. You'll board a typical riverboat for a gentle cruise along the Mae Ping River. Observe the lifestyle of the local people whose traditional wooden homes and modern residences line the riverbank.

You'll stop off at a farm that grows its own fruit and vegetables. Learn about the cultivation of jasmine rice and the medicinal and culinary uses of a variety of herbs that are tended and harvested in traditional fashion. Taste a selection of seasonal fruit in combination with lemongrass and other herbal juices. The highlight is a farmhouse lunch of khao soi — delicious noodles in a spicy curry broth.

After your tasty meal, you'll return directly to your hotel.

Beautiful and relaxing

Sue H, Apr 2025

Beautiful and peaceful. The river cruise was absolutely beautiful. The food and ice cream were a delight. Everyone is so friendly.

Amazing and delicious

Our tour guide was amazing. They picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel seamlessly. We got little facts as we cruised down the river then visited a local farm. We got to smell multiple herbs and the food served was delicious.

Boat trip great, food great! Farm it is not really and takes only 2.5h

amvsch92, Jan 2025

The boat trip itself was very great and wor have been able to collect many impressions - mainly because the floods of October can still be seen very clearly. We wouldn't call it a half-day trip, because the whole thing only took 2.5h.. and a farm we also imagine differently. It was a restaurant with some plants that were explained, but then we had lunch right away and then we had to get back on the boat. The people were friendly and nice, spoke broken English. The food was very good.

Itinerary

  • Ping River

We start this short yet sweet excursion with a short transfer to the Chaimongkol docking area of an exhilarating 45-minutes cruise over the Mae Ping River. Chiang Mai life from the river takes on a completely new persona once you had a taste of the city.

The Rose of the North’s Mae Ping River splits the modern part with the more local side where temples, old wooden houses and local communities still thrive. With modern times interspersed along the river banks, the overall colorful scenery and witness the lifestyle of the local people is something that has retained over time.

The cruise ends with a visit to a local farmhouse with its own herbs, vegetables and fruit gardens. On the farm you observe yourself how the cultivation of jasmine rice and a variety of herbs for use both in medicine and cookery are tended to in traditional fashion. Guided by the local family, visitors truly get a feel and taste of how former generations infused their knowledge in the current farming life cycle.

A selection of seasonal fresh fruit is there to be tried out in combination with the taste of lemon-grass and other herb juices. You should not leave Chiang Mai without tasting the local dish, Khao Soy, a smooth, spicy, noodle in curry soup. Return transfer from the farm to your downtown Chiang Mai hotel is included.
