Our day trip to Slovenia turned out to be an incredible experience, but it didn’t start out that way. I had booked the private version of this tour months in advance, only to be informed shortly before the trip that our group was “too large” and would be placed on a shared group tour instead. That was disappointing, especially since the price remained the same, and what was supposed to include hotel pickup became a DIY trek to a meeting point, which we didn’t find out about until the day before. But then came Dean, our tour guide, and he absolutely saved the day. Dean gets five stars all on his own. He was knowledgeable, engaging, funny, and had an obvious love for his country that shone through every story he shared and every stop we made. He brought so much heart to the tour and made the group feel like old friends. You could tell he takes pride in what he does, and it made all the difference. The itinerary itself was great. We visited Piran, and Izola, and drove through Portorož, each offering its own charm, with plenty of free time to explore, shop, or enjoy a meal. The drive along the coast was gorgeous, and Slovenia truly is a gem of a destination. I’m only knocking one star off this review because of the last-minute logistics issues from the company, but Dean turned what could have been a frustrating day into a memorable highlight of our trip. If you’re lucky enough to get him as your guide, you’re in excellent hands.

It’s a great way to spend the day after cruise. Ernest Prislic was very informative about everything related to Slovenia and the areas we visited. Beautiful country.

Ernest is a great guide and is passionate about his home country. I would have liked to explore the small Slovenian towns a bit more. Would recommend though.

Walking and exploring Piran. This was an expensive day tour for what we received. We found out that late bookings got a $50 Aus dollar discount to what we paid. Not impressed.
Your guide will pick you up at the agreed starting point in Trieste - hotel, cruise terminal, train station etc. (please contact us after the booking so the appropriate arrangements can be made).
Piran is one of the oldest and most beautiful Slovene towns with rich history and culture. Almost 500 years lasting Venetian influence has given this town an inimitable charm. Its culture heritage is not at home only in museums since the architectural and artistic pearls, which decorate the everyday life of the local people, can be found at every corner. Giuseppe Tartini, the world famous composer and violinist, who was born and raised in Piran, had a great impact on the town. Today, his bronze statue adorns the town’s main square together with Tartini’s house where visitors can admire one of his violins. The Tartini Square is surrounded by majestic buildings, such as the richly decorated Municipal Palace, Tartini Theatre, Maritime Museum, Aquarium, Marine Biological Station, Baroque House and Apollonio Palace. On the hill above the town is the biggest and most important church, the Church of Saint George, which offers a wonderful view. Piran’s town wall, narrow streets, fishermen’s nets, compact houses that rise up the slope and beautiful sea will give you the feeling of walking through a painting. On this panoramic trip along the Slovene coast you will also visit the coastal towns of Portorož, Izola and Koper, where a tourist guide will tell you about the main attractions, historical facts and local tradition.
Portorož, which literally means 'Port of Roses', is a popular tourist destination with hotels, casinos and beautiful beaches. Nearby are located the Sečovlje natural salt pans where salts are extracted from the pure sea water using interesting traditional methods.
At the end, we will visit Izola, which is known for its fishing history.
Koper, an important European port and the largest city of the Slovene Coast.
