The Vltava River is the longest river in the Czech Republic, starting in the Šumava mountain range in South Bohemia and flows all the way to the middle of Bohemia. The river is 270 miles long and passes through Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, where it covers around 19 miles within the city centre.
For centuries, the only way to cross the Vltava River was over Charles Bridge, Prague’s iconic 516-metre-long stone bridge. Charles Bridge is the oldest bridge remaining in Prague and the second oldest in the Czech Republic. The medieval bridge is a celebrated UNESCO World Heritage site connecting Prague Castle to the city’s Old Town.
