Fjord Xplore Kjetil's Sunday funday

J7041ARgarym, Oct 2025

Kjetil picked us up from the cruise terminal at 11am. After climbing into the provided dry suit and life vest, we were on the water by 11.20am enroute to Lysefjord. The boat is powered by a 350hp Yamaha motor and easily propelled us at 30knots to the fjord passing salmon farms and quaint villages dotted along either shoreline. Kjetil is a Stavanger local and kept us entertained with insights of the local area. It is truly a beautiful waterway and we were fortunate that we had it largely to ourselves and the conditions were pristine. We observed seals at several points in our journey which was an unexpected surprise. Kjetil dropped us back into Stavanger at the public wharf where we continued our exploring. A wonderful approx 2 3/4hrs excursion of a stunning waterway.

Expect the unexpected

Escape142685, Sept 2025

Company provides adequate clothing, overalls, gloves, goggles. We didn't know what to expect but wanted something different from just a walking tour. The captain of ship was very accommodating and we were allowed to sit wherever we wanted. The unexpected was the ride to the waterfall. Be prepared. He took the boat right under the waterfall and gave us each a turn experiencing the "spray" from the waterfall. The boat got so close that we got soaked.... like taking a shower. It was the highlight of the trip. Waterproof coveralls worked well. The company was prompt and worth the excitement. The only con is that we wished the captain would have narrated the area we passed. There were some generated music and recordings of the cave and waterfall but not of the area and beautiful scenery we passed. We weren't even sure we had come across Pulpit Rock and had to ask another passenger on the boat. Pulpit Rock wasn't what we expected. From our view, the base, it was smaller and didn't stand out. It was exciting and exhilarating. Nevertheless, the ride was cool and yes.... it is a speedboat ride.

Great fjord and waterfall experience

X5024GCdavida, Sept 2025

It was great to get out on the water in a small boat like this. We were given appropriate gear that kept us warm and dry as we sped through the fjord. The views were beautiful. The last part of the tour was to Whiskey Falls where the boat pulled up close enough for those in the front to get wet. We then exchanged seats with those in the back and did it again so everyone had a chance to experience the falls.

Itinerary

  • Stavanger

The tour start in our boathouse in Strandkaien 34, located in the heart of Stavanger harbour and a very short walking distance from the cruise terminal. Here you will be able to sit down and relax, use our WC, put on the floating suit etc. You will also meet the captain which will help you to put on the safety equipment. He will also give you a small safety brief before boarding the boat. We start off slowly by gliding out of Stavanger harbour while passing mighty cruiseships or other vessels. On the way out you will have a beautiful view of the city centre and to some of the iconic buildings like "Tollboden" and the Norwegian oil museum. After we pass the bridge you will see a gigantic street art painting before we then accelerate to a thrilling 25-35 knots and head to Lysefjorden. Note: due to capacity restraints and regulations we might have to depart from another dock nearby. Fjord Xplore will provide free transfer (<5 min. drive).
