We were able to see my Great Uncle’s grave and see the approximate battlefield where he died. The visit to the German cemetery was solemn. We had not considered the German war grave situation previously. Sylvester was a fantastic guide and was very helpful finding my relative.

This was one of the best tours we have done in France. Our guide Sylvester was excellent in his knowledge of the towns we visited and the battles that had occurred there. I would recommend this tour to anyone with an interest in Australia’s WWI history!
The impressive crater caused by an underground explosion on 1st July 1916 just prior the infantry assault
The site of Pozieres is very significant in Australian history: from the Gibraltar bunker to the Windmill and Mouquet farm, thousands of Australian soldiers have lost their lives there...
The Thiepval memorial commemorates the missing of the Somme.
A unique and well preserved battlefield from the 1916 battle
A visit to the excellent Somme 1916 underground museum is included. We stop for lunch in the charming town of Albert.
The first Monash's battle as the commander of the Australian Corps took place on 4 July 1918 at Le Hamel.
This name of this place means so much to Australia. From the impressive and moving Australian monument to the new and excellent Sir John Monash Centre and its interactive exhibition.
