Dachau Concentration Camp was the first that the Nazis opened in 1933 in Germany, originally intended to hold political prisoners only. Later it became a camp of forced labor with over 200,000 inmates during its 12 years of operation.
The place became an “Academy of Terror”, a role model and a training ground of vast brutality, killing around 40,000 people from 34 nations before it was liberated in 1945 by the American army.

Franz was very knowledgeable and easy to speak with. We learned a lot of new information from him. We went through the memorial at our own pace.

This tour was sobering and important to experience. I learned so much from our tour guide Charlotte. She really has command of the history of Dauchau and the WW2 period in Germany/Europe in general. It was great.

Our guide Michael was very informative and passionate, we learnt so much. We had a minutes silence outside the crematorium to show our respect and to remember those lost and this time in history should never happen again, we all need to learn from this.
