We had an incredibly memorable and enjoyable day visiting a Maasai family. We visited Daniel and his family at his home, approximately 1 hour outside of Nairobi. We had a fabulous day learning about their culture, traditions and overall way of life. They taught us about their herbal medicine, pastoral lifestyle and other traditions. We got to try beading our own bracelets, cooking ugali, throwing clubs and singing/dancing. Our hosts were incredibly welcoming and happy to answer our questions. It was also nice to share some of our lives / stories with them. One Horizon is a very well run organization with a fantastic mission of improving the lives of the Maasai people. We would highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to learn more about another culture and way of life, as well as support a great cause.

This was a wonderful experience as you are immersed directly into the real world these people live in. You really get the feel and understanding of the traditions and culture that you never get from a book or TV documentary. My wife as well as I feel this is a must do before you go to Game Camp Safaris etc. You gain the added knowledge and base background needed for properly experiencing all other aspects of Africa. The Masi especially! Most importantly is the help One Horizon is giving to make life better for so many people! Colin is a man with a heart for these people and is a true blessing for them. You will feel that when you meet the Masi. They are a happy, hard working, positive group!

I booked this tour right away after I read the description and the great work of the organization behind it. However actually visiting with Daniel, Risper, and Immanuel - our beautiful Massai family hosts - met and exceeded my wildest expectations. We learned so much about their culture and day to day life - everything was so authentic and fascinating. I was able to fully disconnect and be present and totally immersed in the experience. Thank you Solomon and Caroline for being our guides for this life changing experience. It goes without saying that I highly recommend this tour. You cannot come to Kenya and miss this experience!

HI there and thank you for our review and the fact that you enjoyed your time with our family. And we also appreciate your comments about authenticity and what you learned. All the members of the family are incredibly strong people. Thank you again and we hope to see you when you are next in Kenya

Colin and Solomon took us on a truly incredible day sharing experiences with a Masai family. The day was well organised, catered and even forethought of bringing much needed gumbooots for us. It was a joyous time, we were welcomed with Masai dancing (and encouraged to join in), heard lots of stories about daily life, learnt of the strength and courage required each day, were serenaded by tribal songs while we tried our hand at beading, shared some lunch. Most of all we really enjoyed learning and sharing our different cultures. An unforgettable day which only got better as Colin emailed us many photos of us from the day!

it was a fun day wasn't it and even the rain could not stop us enjoying it. Thank you so much for your support and it was great to have you with us for the day. Safe travels and we do hope that we see you again when next you are in Africa
From Nairobi, drive into the rural Maasai heartland where one of the elders will take you on a tour to explain how the Maasai manage these precious lands. You learn about their tribal values, native herbs that are used for medicinal remedies, the importance the Maasai place on their natural resources like land and water, and help herd the cattle, which is their most sacred and treasured possession. A warm song and dance welcome awaits you at the village, and the wife of a village elder will offer to dress you in traditional Maasai shuka cloth or ‘African blanket’. You’ll also be invited to help out the women and learn their skills of constructing a new manyatta. Time for lunch when you join the Maasai mothers to cook up a traditional Kenyan meal over an open-fire, and they'll share stories as they show you how to create your own piece of highly-decorative Maasai beaded jewellery. Then meet the young Maasai warriors, or morans, who explain their rites of passage as they become warriors
