Starlight Express was on of my favourite shows of all time. I saw the production at the Apollo Victoria on numerous occasions along with various tours. Therefore, I was extremely excited when I heard it was coming back to London. I have never been so disappointed in a Production as I was in this. Everything was poor, from the nonsensical costumes (that have nothing to do with trains), through the dreadful changes they made to the show and the staging. The whole things seemed like a very amateur production. While it was still fun in places, the standout new character being Hydra, the show lost pretty much everything that made it so special. The story is now completely incoherent, if there is now one, the presence of Control in stage throughout the performance was annoying, the new songs and changes to existing songs absolutely awful. The performers did their best, but apart the the before mentioned Hydra and Dinah, everything fell flat. One of the worst things was the costumes, the old costumes were fantastic, the new ones look like Power Rangers from Temu. The Auditorium looked quite good, but not a patch on the set from the original production, no bridge or tight corners and the skating seemed a lot slower than in the past. All in all, a huge disappointment. Hopefully one day we will see a Production of Starlight Express in it's original form, or even the 1992-2002 New Starlight Express as both were great and a thousand times better than whatever this is.

High-energy musical - great for all the family! The theatre is set up to immerse the audience in the whole story, with the roller skaters coming into the audience for most of the performance!

I thoroughly enjoyed the show.... probably more aimed at older kids... but I had a track-side seat, excellent view and found it quite exciting and fast moving. It is an updated story with new elements ... which I think some people didn't realise. The updating was great and the kids were screaming with delight. Much of Richard Stilgoe's original witty lyrics are still in it as well as the mjuch loved "Light at the end of the tunnel". A very different kind of venue and I found the lobby area fun .... TIP- if you want a drink in the interval pre order it or you will be ages in the queue. I loved it Kim

Great costumes, set and skating, but it could be an hour shorter. The love story is not needed, it drags the show out after the race. They seem to have mistaken making the music incredibly loud for making the songs better. Cast were good at their job but not worth the money.
