Overview

A tea ceremony is a key part of Japanese culture, and Kyoto—long regarded as the country’s cultural capital—is one of the best places to experience it. During the ceremony, a tea master demonstrates the precise steps involved in preparing premium matcha, offering invaluable insights that you’d miss if drinking tea in a restaurant. You can then enjoy traditional Japanese sweets to accompany your tea.

Nice and quiet ceremony

Helen_s, Nov 2025

Very interesting, slightly interrupted by people that arrived too early but the host is very good. The house kept very cold for november.

A wonderful experience...

A wonderful experience with a thoughtful and patient teacher. We would recommend this to anyone visiting the area.

Learn about traditional tea ceremonies!

eleanor_w, Nov 2025

Absolutely delightful tea ceremony. This was a relaxed way for us to learn about traditional matcha tea ceremonies without the pressure of many touristy places. Our host was kind and explained everything and made us comfortable. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an intro to tea ceremonies, looking to learn a little bit, or just a fun activity!

It might be what u r looking for

Breen_S, Nov 2025

All things considered this got the job done when it comes to an authentic tea ceremony. Was a little rushed and not fancy - felt like you were in someone’s house (I think you are). If you are looking for an authentic tea house experience in old Kyoto this is not it, but if you want to learn about the tea ceremony and experience a simple version, this gives you that for less than $50.

Response from Host, Nov 2025

Thank you so much for joining our tea ceremony and for sharing your feedback. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed learning about the tradition. The ceremony takes place in the tea master’s private house, which was specially designed for tea ceremony. Our goal is to offer an intimate and genuine experience. We truly appreciate your visit and hope you took a peaceful memory from your time in Kyoto.
