Amazing experience

We had a truly wonderful experience with Janny during the calligraphy and pottery workshop in Shanghai. From the moment we arrived, everything was thoughtfully organised, calm, and welcoming. Janny has a rare gift for sharing Chinese culture in a way that feels both authentic and accessible. The calligraphy session was beautifully paced, allowing us to appreciate the history and meaning behind each stroke, while still being hands-on and engaging. The tea tasting that followed was equally special — unhurried, informative, and deeply grounding. What made the experience exceptional was how well it worked for our entire family. Our children were genuinely engaged, curious, and excited throughout, which speaks volumes about Janny’s warmth, patience, and ability to connect across ages and cultures. This was not just an activity, but a meaningful cultural memory that we will carry with us long after our trip. We would wholeheartedly recommend Janny’s workshops to families and anyone looking for a thoughtful, enriching, and personal cultural experience in Shanghai. Really great tour! The tea ceremony was very interesting to learn about from the tea master, and was great to be able to taste so many different teas. The tea master and the guide were so friendly and excited for us to be there which made the whole experience even better. I'd definitely recommend it, especially if you're a big tea drinker.

Meet your local English-speaking guide at a local tea shop in Shanghai to begin your authentic tea ceremony. Over the course of the 2-hour session, you’ll enjoy unlimited samples of rare tea and learn about the importance of tea in Chinese culture from your tea master, an expert in art of tea.
With the help of your English-speaking guide, find out which occasions in China involve tea drinking and gain an understanding of how tea has evolved in China. Hear about tea’s medicinal properties, its ability to teach a respect for nature and its spiritual powers, known to create inner peace and calm.
Discover how to properly drink a cup of tea in order to experience its full effects. Go through the ritual of smelling and tasting the tea before and after adding the hot water. Then, sample green tea, oolong tea, black tea and Pu-erh (or Pu'er) tea, letting the teacup relax your hands and the steam sooth your eyes.
You’ll also learn the specifics, including the implements needed to store tea leaves and ideal steep times and temperatures.
