Matilde was a fantastic guide, she answered all our curiosity with enthusiasm and an immense dose of patience and smiles. I have been coming to Catatnia for more than 30 years and thanks to her I was able to discover corners of the city that were totally unknown to me.

We really learned a lot about Catania from our guide, Oreste, who put the history of this city in context so that its current condition is understandable and makes sense. The underground experience is quite memorable.

The guide was really impressive, his explanations very interesting; we see 4 different sites in Catania (warning: sites are not connected); the first one was under a restaurant, the group was divided in smaller groups in order to visit. We had to wait about 30min before getting in;
Vast thermal complex, dating back to the III-IV century AD, which extended into the area of Piazza Duomo. The thermal plant was made up of numerous rooms, but the only portion remained accessible is located just below the cathedral
The heart of the city, sacred and profane between Liotru and Sant’Agata, Norman rigor and baroque splendor. From the original "ecclesia munita" of the Norman era, to the current Baroque Cathedral, a history of destruction and reconstruction through the centuries and the faith of the citizens of the Etna city.
The Amenano, a mysterious underground river that winds under the historic center of Catania, originally flowed to the surface feeding the Lake of Nicito. Over the centuries eruptions, earthquakes and wars have changed not only the urban planning of the city, but also its natural appearance. We will visit a suggestive sliding cave in which a branch of the river still flows
One of the most beautiful places in Catania. An ancient lava flow cave, already reused in Greek times as a cistern and then as a catacomb tomb by the Romans. According to tradition, it was the site of the first deposition of Saint Agatha, on which a small church was built as early as 262. Today the crypt still preserves the remains of ancient frescoes and decorations carved directly into the living rock
