Exclusive tour of the Long Tan memorial and Australian operations base. Tour guide was very passionate and knowledgeable of the area and history. It was great to visit the site of a key piece of Australian military history.

Excellent. We spent a long day mostly in the car, but it was worth it. We were picked up from our hotel at the scheduled time, actually it was two minutes late and the guide apologized for it. The tour was just my wife and myself and we were off to Long Tan looking at the scenery and talking about the country of Vietnam and its people. We were met at a meeting point by our local guide, Trung. He was extremely polite and knowledgeable about the time the Australians spent at Nui Dat and Long Tan and gave a good commentary along the way. After the tour of the Australian Base and battlefield we were taken back to the meeting place where we were handed back to our first guide. From there we went to a restaurant for lunch which was a very nice local offering and then back to our hotel in Ho Ch Minh City. All in all a very moving and touching experience. Well done to all.

Start the trip with the Long Phuoc Tunnels system in Long Phuoc commune, Ba Ria town. These tunnel clusters are interconnected by a main spine route, with secret chambers containing reserved food and fortified fighting positions. We will then head to the site of the Long Tan Battlefield, where you will visit the former first Australian Task Force base at Nui Dat.
In a somber moment, we will visit the Long Tan Cross Memorial, established to honor the 17 Australian infantrymen and 1 APC crewman killed in action during the Battle of Long Tan on August 18, 1966. The cross was first erected on the site in 1969 by the 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, which fought in the battle during its second tour of duty. In 1986, a replica of the cross was placed on the original site. In 2017, the Vietnamese Government gifted the original cross to Australia, where it is now displayed at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.
Next, we will visit Nui Dat Hill, the former base of the First Australian Task Force (1ATF Base), including Luscombe Airfield, which was home to the Australian military during the Vietnam War. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before returning to Ho Chi Minh City.
