Bike tour in Sunny Alicante, perfect way to see the area

angelak931, Apr 2025

This bike tour was fantastic, the guide was great, stopped at places to tell us some history of Alicante. Had a visit to nougat shop where we got to sample some of the Turro nougat, went back there afterwards to buy some gifts for family. Also visited the food market where we were offered some local wine and charcuterie. Bikes were easy to ride, route was mostly gentle on the legs, just a little bit of a hill on the way back but managed well despite not being very fit! We saw a lot of areas that we would not have seen on foot. Other guests on tour were friendly, was a great trip, really added to our city break, would recommend.

Lovely jaunt around the beach and some of the city. Very gentle pace but lovely sights and super friendly team. The little surprises en route were great.

Great bike tour suitable for all

Ritchie_W, Mar 2025

We travelled as a group of 7, mixed ages and abilities. We all had a great time, it was done at a leisurely pace suitable for anyone. Chris was a friendly and knowledgeable guide and we visited some great sites. Highly recommend

Fun event

bexnate, Mar 2025

We had a group of 3 couples & saw the major sites with our guide. We got to taste delicious almond candy & vermouth. We rode down the old train tracks, to the marina & back to the city mercado. It's not easy navigating as there are a lot of pedestrians, scooters & cars but the route is relatively flat. I felt more comfortable with a guide than I would on my own in a tourist city like Alicante. Our guide gave us many recommendations for the rest of our trip. Worth every euro. Definitely recommend in March. Cool temperatures. Not sure how it would be in the busy summer season.

Itinerary

  • Barri Vell Santa Creu

This area is located somewhat higher up, next to the wallgoing down from Santa Bárbara Castle. Santa Cruz Hermitage stands on the slopes of Mount

  • Concatedral Sant Nicolau de Bari d'Alacant

The construction of the Co-cathedral began in the 17th Century in a Herrerian style, characterized by its sobriety and scarce decorative items.

  • Basilica de Santa Maria del Mar

This Basilica was originally a Muslim Mosque, which became a Christian church after the Christians conquered the city. This is another building that was undamaged by thebombardment. The current church is Gothic

  • Platja del Postiguet

This is the only urban beach you can visit in the city. From this beach, you can contemplate the Santa Bárbara Castle with its characteristic Moor Face profile.

  • The first seafront was built using rubble from the demolition of the historic walls. Originally called “El Malecón”. The current esplanade was built in the 60s. Altogether, the mosaic is made up of 6,600,000 pieces in three different colors; one of them is called “Alicante red” as this marble colour can only be found in this region.

  • Placa De Gabriel Miro

This Square used to be called “Correos”; it reflects the bourgeois city and ideas of urban aesthetics proper to the new dominant class.

  • Parque de Canalejas

you will find several 100-year-old Ficus trees It is very pleasant to find shade and walk in this park on hot days.

  • Paseo del Puerto Viejo

We are now going back to our along the marina instead of the Explanada.

  • It was built in 2008 for the Volvo Ocean Race that departed from Alicante. You will enjoy the sea under your feet.

  • This marked the beginning of the town’s expansion. During this route, we will visit the area where the new city emerged in the second half of the 19th Century.

  • Alicante City Hall

First Town Hall was destroyed by bombardments in 1691. This building was very close to the sea and, consequently, this area was one of the most damaged of the city. he Town Hall that we can visit today was built at the beginning of the 18th Century.

  • Rambla Mendez Nunez

This avenue marks the limit between the old quarter (left) and the historic centre that was about to emerge (right). It used to be a ditch at the foot of the wall, where rain water ran through.

  • Teatro Principal de Alicante

This theatre was built in the middle of the 19th Century.

  • Mercat Central d'Alacant

Was built at the beginning of the 20th Century and it was later bombed during the civil war. Parts of this market had to be reconstructed.
