Get acquainted with Montevideo’s architectural landmarks, neighborhoods and coastal views on this insightful 3-hour guided tour of the capital. Board your coach upon hotel pickup for the drive to Independence Plaza (Plaza Independencia), which divides Montevideo’s Old Town and downtown.
Your guide points out the monument to José Artigas, Uruguay's great military leader and national hero, and leads you on a walk around the plaza. Admire the Italian Gothic–style architecture of the Palacio Salvo (Palacio Legislativo), whose 26 stories once made it South America tallest building. View Puerta de la Ciudadela, one of the few remaining parts of the city wall that once surrounded colonial Montevideo.
Back aboard the bus, head to the barrio of El Prado, home to three soccer stadiums and Prado Park. Listen to your guide’s commentary as your city tour continues to elegant Carrasco, Punta Gorda and Pocitos, traveling along La Rambla de Montevideo. Get out to stroll a section of this beachside promenade where you can browse local shops and enjoy lovely coastal views from Punta Gorda before the return drive to your hotel.

They didn’t turn up.

They never turned up. We waited 45 mins and I tried to contact them through the app as I had done successfully the day before and they ghosted me!

Donot book with this unreliable company. The tour was booked for 2 pm for a hotel pick up. No one turned up and Viator are claiming the tour operator was there..( without showing us any proof) Absolutely no proof was provided by the tour operator that they were there - they simply claim that we were not there and have charged us for a tour that they did not provide; see our proof of booking and meeting time Ended up loosing a precious part of our holiday waiting for a tour to pick us up Communication was very poor and I feel scammed for getting charged for a service that was not offered - just because Viator is a big company does not mean they can scam genuine tourists I highly recommend using some other firm whom you can trust and not use Viator - or this tour any more

The route taken was filled with historic sites. The stops along the way to make photos and interact with the city were very strategic as it felt immersive. The tour guide was also knowledgeable and gave historic and current information about the city and it's citizens. My favourite stops were the palace and the coast with the Montevideo sign. I recommend this tour for anyone who wants to learn about the city and also have fun doing so.
