Enjoy an afternoon off the beaten path!

249netties, Jun 2025

I think this tour was overpriced for what you get, especially considering you have to spend extra money just to get to and from the starting point. That said, our tour guide was very informative and brought great energy once we arrived at Cecilia Restaurant. The food there was very good and definitely worth the visit. It was also cool to get out of the walled city and explore places that felt more off the beaten path, which added a different perspective to our trip.

Memorable Ride Through the Real Cartagena

Richard_F, May 2025

Gio and his fiance led the two of us on a wonderful sojourn through Cartegena. Although we're used to riding e-bikes the multi geared MTBs provided worked well on the flat terrain, with just one hill on a bridge requiring some extra exertion. The ride to Bazurto marketplace for the authentic Columbian lunch was not on the greatest roads and with traffic, but OK, and the lunch was indeed a local foodie experience. It seems like a dirty hole in the wall but I had the Mixta, some of everything, with no adverse affects! A very worthwhile experience. It's not gourmet but a taste of real Columbian home cooking. The ride towards the Barrio Getsemani was better and a fascinating spin through that upscale artsy neighborhood was the highlight. My only beef was that at that point we were close to the walled old city but did not venture there. Adding some more time to the ride to do that would make it an over the top experience. We didn't feel like taking a cab there afterwards so we missed out on seeing it. It was nice to ride to the bay for a photo op but it was a very short path along there. Also as a bicycle author I strongly recommend wearing a helmet on this ride, between the road conditions and riding amongst mostly bike unfriendly traffic it's where a helmet works the best preventing injury. We handled riding with the slow moving traffic fine but I wouldn't recommend this ride to the less savvy cyclist. All in all it was a wonderful memorable experience getting to know the real Cartagena, Gio did a great job leading, keeping us as safe as possible, and providing fascinating insight.

Gio is the best guide imaginable!!

mikeyomega1, Apr 2025

This tour was the best way to kick off our time in Cartagena! Gio was absolutely the best guide not only for the tour, but also for the history, accommodations and uniquely detailed cultural immersion during the tour. Giovanni planned everything so meticulously that even some of our random needs were met with still on route such as the need to purchase some necessities. Gio took us to the REAL CARTAGENA and to the amazing local community which was a perfect compliment to the tour and history. Plus, it was a great experience exploring the markets and having fun conversations with Gio over very cold local beers. Side note: Gio takes the best photos too if you’re looking for beautiful places to bookmark your time here. I highly recommend this tour and Gio as the cornerstone to your travel experience in Cartagena!

A really memorable few...

Elena_G, Feb 2025

A really memorable few hours! Gio is passionate about Cartagena, and shares generously of his love and knowledge of its history and its people. The market is a real off-the-beaten path experience, and Getsemaní is a fascinating neighborhood that deserves to be explored and admired. In a city full of "touristy" experiences this one stood out as the most authentic and from the heart. Recommended to anyone who wants to experience the real Cartagena. Thanks Gio!

Itinerary

  • Our starting point! We will offer you useful information to know before our tour and get to know each other.

    15 minutes
  • We will take beautiful and impressive photos of the beautiful Bay of Cartagena, rarely visited by tourists, but very visited by boat owners.

We will share curious and updated information about the Bay of Cartagena and Manga Island.

    15 minutes
  • Fuerte de San Sebastian del Pastelillo

We will make a photo stop to take a picture of ourselves in front of the fort's guard post that protected Manga Island and the water channel towards the San Felipe de Barajas fort.

    10 minutes
  • Barrio Getsemani

We will visit points of greatest historical and artistic interest within the Getsemani neighborhood, and we will stop to hydrate in preparation for the route to the Bazurto Market. We will take photos, of the art on the walls and the colorful streets of the Getsemani neighborhood.

This is a humble, but very colorful and important neighborhood that has earned a place as one of the "coolest" neighborhoods in the world according to Forbes and Travelers Magazine.

    30 minutes
  • Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas

The largest fortress built by the Spanish in the American Hemisphere during the conquest, colonization and governance of Latin America.

  • At the highest point of the emblematic city of Cartagena de Indias is the first fortress and surveillance point. We will be able to see it for much of the way and as we get closer we will appreciate its imposing presence.

  • Mercado de Bazurto

We will enter the fascinating culinary world of the Bazurto Market; visited by ANTHONY BOURDAIN during his search for real Cartagena food for the filming of "No Reservations".

There we will delight ourselves with the flavors of an exotic cuisine, but accessible to the most humble diners. We will discover the flavors that are part of the culinary art of an almost mythical place where very few tourists access. Your palate will be impressed with the condiments and cooking style of Cecilia Restaurant and others around it.

That's why Culinary Critic and Chef Anthony Bourdain made it his favorite during his trips to Colombia!

    1 hour
  • This community near the Bazurto Market where some of those who work diligently live is one of the expressions of a v

humble, hard-working community that struggles to survive. As we walk through its streets, we will discover what is the way of life of the true resident of Cartagena.
