First, let me start by saying that our driver was phenomenal. He was punctual, knowledgeable, and made the whole trip to and from Oxford enjoyable. That said, I feel completely ripped off. We spent over $1,000 USD for two people to have a private transfer to Oxford University and take a tour. The information on the listing stated that the tour would include access to the library and that it would be a small group. Once we arrived, we discovered that the tour we were placed on was actually a free tour, and we were not allowed to enter any buildings. For $1,120.10 USD, we expected much more—specifically, an intimate or private group experience and access to at least one building. Instead, we found ourselves part of a free tour that any random person can join after spending such an exorbitant amount of money. Had we realized this beforehand, we would have either booked a private car ourselves or taken public transit. I feel that this listing is misleading, and the only aspect that made our experience enjoyable was our amazing driver.
One of the world’s oldest universities, the University of Oxford dominates about a quarter of the city. It’s made up of 38 colleges, attended by over 22,000 students. Many of the grand old buildings are attractions in their own right and give Oxford its nickname of 'the City of Dreaming Spires'. Standouts among the many include the Sheldonian Theatre and the Radcliffe Camera. Don’t forget to take a walk around the university’s botanic gardens
