Very good tour, our guide Alessio was excellent. It explains the history of the city very well. And very fun with the interaction of the other tourists.

Wendelin is THE man! The tour is laid back and everything is as they convey when you book ... look for the white umbrella at Dam Square, check in, get a load of fun for the better part of 2 hours. To be honest, before we left it became clear that Wendelin was somewhat of a history expert on The Netherlands. I'm predisposed to not care much about history, but Wendelin inadvertently flipped my understanding of my own interest in history. We did the walking tour early in our stay, and I didn't know until the next several days just how lucky we were to have bee on his tour ... when we were simply strolling around and paying attention or on a boat cruise or in the Rijkmuseum, we found ourselves numerous times saying, "Yes, remember Wendelin told us about this?" (e.g., William of Orange, William the second, Louis Napolean, architecture, coffeehouses, bicycles in the canals, keeping your fly zipped if you drown so that they actually do an investigation, etc.). I love London Walks in London, and Free Walking Tours Amsterdam is just as good. Highly recommended. (attached photos are poor, but I think that's because we were listening rather than photographing.)
Our tour begins at the National Monument on Dam Square, near where Amsterdam was founded. Our tour also ends here.
Originally built as a town hall, the historic palace is the most culturally important building in the Netherlands. A visit after the tour is highly recommended and can be booked on the Royal Palace website.
Walk through Amsterdam's most recognizable feature; the Canal Belt, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Follow us along the city's connective veins, its picturesque cobblestone streets and houseboats.
We will stroll through the picturesque cobblestone streets and charming houses of this neighborhood, exploring its bohemian history and art galleries.
We'll pass by the house where Anne Frank and her family hid during World War II, learning about her life and legacy.
We will visit the historic heart of Amsterdam, where the Royal Palace and the New Church are located, and enjoy the lively atmosphere of the square.
