Overview

Amazing place, but marred by overzealous religious guide

It was my third visit and so far probably the worst one. The place is spectacular as always, but what really marred it for me was the aggressive catholic propaganda spewed by the guide. There was a little bit of history thrown in, but simplified, a tiny bit of geology- but mostly it was about prayers, sacred figures, sculptures and the constant ‘ god bless’. That was a Polish speaking guide- maybe other guides are not as eagerly imposing their faith on others. I understand that religion played a part in the past, it is part of history, but there is so much more that could be told about the place! If I ever go next time, I will choose the geological tour.
Salt mines Tourist route

Good half day trip - this was the tourist route in the mine - there is a different experience called Miners route check which you want to do.

This was a great day had by all. A lot of steps going down but broken up so manageable. And thankfully a lift back up. Our tour guide was brilliant - very informative and brought humour to the tour as-well. Food in the cafe there was delicious and a good price too.

Wieliczka Salt Mine
During the trip, you will visit one of the oldest working Salt Mines in the World – the Wieliczka’s Salt Mine, which has been producing table salt for over 700 years! Your English speaking guide will take you up to 140 meters underground for a 2,5-hours journey through over 2,5-kilometres long tourist route full of chambers with amazing carvings and statues and large collection of mining machines and equipment, where everything is made of salt. Please note that to reach the first level of the mine (64 metres underground), you have to descent a wooden stairway which has 378 steps. After the tour, you will be taken up to the surface with a lift.
