This tour starts with an early morning pick up at your Bavaro or Punta Cana hotel. Get to know your local guide on the way to a typical Dominican country plantation.
Meet the local famers and hear about their organic farming methods, used to cultivate cinnamon, cacao, coffee, and vanilla. Taste coffee or hot chocolate, and take advantage of the opportunity to purchase some of these straight-from-the-source products to take home.
Climb back in your vehicle and ascend a mountain road deep into the jungle. Arrive at Monkeyland, a 5-acre (2-hectare) squirrel monkey habitat managed by a dedicated couple. Follow your guide on a guided tour of the sanctuary, where you have the chance to watch and feed the monkeys. Visit the botanical garden, featuring native trees, plants and flowers, before boarding your vehicle for transport back to your hotel at the end of your tour.

What an experience (in a good way). The day does start with hotel pick ups, then you travel through the countryside to the mountains. Viewing villages on the way - our driver Brian was brilliant - navigating a big coach through some sharp turns and steep hills (always very safely). Angel was out tour guide - what a guy! Sense of humour, very personable, professional and exceptionally knowledgable about the country he loves - the Dominican Republic! When you get to the activity site, you have a very steep incline up to a local farmers house, then through to an area where you see coconut being processed and you get to put some coconut oil on (really stops the mozzies). You see coffee beans, how they process them by hand and you get to try! You see cocoa (chocolate) before (try it, it’s like mango), during (try it again mixed with unrefined sugar) and then try it as a drink. There is a shop, there really is no hard sell! But there stuff is amazing! You then head downhill to the monkeys. Wow! As a small group you go into where they live and then you feed them. There are important instructions before to keep you safe. They are literally jumping all over you, it’s a really surreal experience. Great to see them so happy and healthy. If you’ve got kids and they are scared the staff are brilliant with them. And the monkeys are so gentle. It’s great to support the work they do at Runners by booking this trip - it’s a half day and well worth it. You get about 40 mins with the monkeys and it is plenty of time. Thank you for such a great experience

Very organised, good communication received. Prompt pick up. George, our guide, was very knowledgeable. More than enough time spent with the monkeys. Can take as many of your own photos as you like. Be aware, no bags allowed into the enclosure and absolutely no food in your pockets. Hats, phones, cameras and glasses are allowed to be taken in. Plantation tour was also very good and interesting learning about chocolate and coffee. Would highly recommend this trip and I thought it was good value for money.

This is such a fun trip, this is the third time we have visited Monkeyland with our young children. Our bus driver / tour guide, Jose Carrasco was fantastic. He taught us so much about the local communities and the wildlife. He also serenaded us with a song! The monkey are the cutest things ever. You really get to interact with them. The fresh coffee and cacao were delicious. I would highly recommend this tour.
